Unlike chain-link fencing, which can obstruct views with its larger number of poles, thicker gauge, and metallic glare, netting backstops allow for an unobstructed, clearer line of sight. Netting, when compared to chain-link wire, can be made of thinner, high-strength materials such as Nylon or Dyneema that are less noticeable, ensuring that fans can see the game more clearly and remain focused without distractions or obstructions.

This wear and tear can lead to bent, rusted, or weakened sections of the fence that require costly repairs or replacements as whole panels of chain-link would have to be replaced to repair a single small section. Netting, on the other hand, tends to be more durable and less prone to physical damage. Even if a section of netting becomes worn, it is relatively easy and affordable to replace or repair small areas without requiring the entire backstop to be rebuilt.

Instead, the netting is supported by cables that extend beyond the edge of the net to poles positioned outside the sightline of spectators. Inline Backstops:
The classic design, the inline backstop system, combines nets and poles arranged parallel to the baseline and behind home plate. The term “inline” refers to the positioning of the poles, which align with the netting, typically at the corners of the backstop and at the ends of the net. This type of system is used when the poles must be placed in line with the netting due to a lack of space to place them elsewhere. In past years, this was the go-to design for most sport complexes and ballparks, however recently has been surpassed by the groundbreaking innovation of the suspension backstop system.
Chain-link Backstop Netting Extension:
If you already have a chain-link backstop in good condition, one option we offer is our chain-link backstop netting extension system. An original innovation by Nets of Texas, this system is designed to enhance an existing chain-link backstop by adding poles and netting that attaches to the current structure. It’s a cost-effective solution for ballparks where the existing chain-link backstop is not providing adequate coverage.
